ABOUT US

Currently I am in the process of joining forces with another wonderful acupuncturist, Naomi Abeshouse. She shares my passions and long term vision for a women’s health centre and so we are in the throws of starting that venture together…. It’s called The Red Tent Health Centre. Soon it will be full of many practitioners of all different orientations all designed to help you achieve your ultimate level of health, well being and happiness.

::REBECCA::

Hi, I’m Rebecca Mar Young, Acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist, yoga teacher and Mum. That extraordinary feeling of being pregnant and the whirlwind that is the first few months of motherhood, are two experiences that I understand and appreciate completely. I am passionate about women’s health and in particular, getting mums back on track after the birth of their baby. I run regular courses on acupressure for labour, acupressure for pregnancy and post natal care and women’s natural health. I love teaching and will be doing more of that at our new centre.

So, what are my credentials? I’ve been studying and practicing Chinese medicine for over seven years. I trained at the University of Technology Sydney and hold a Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I completed my internship at the China Japan Friendship hospital in Beijing. It was here that I witnessed how well Chinese and western medical treatments work together. I believe in combining the strengths of Chinese and western medicine. I have also studied remedial massage at Nature Care College in Sydney as well as post graduate studies in Japanese acupuncture, specifically the Manaka protocols and non-insertive acupuncture for children called Shonishin. I regularly attend seminars on fertility, gynaecology, paediatric oriental medicine and Chinese herbs. More recently I have become a yoga teacher and have taught pre-natal yoga. I trained through Yoga First in Victoria in combination with Life Source Yoga and Health in North Sydney. I was fortunate to be taught by some extraordinary teachers: Richard James Allen, Neera Scott and Christina Brown. Yoga and Chinese medicine share similar philosophies in many ways and so it is now informing my practice on a whole new level.

::NAOMI::

Hi, I’m Naomi Abeshouse, Acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist and Doula. As a Doula I so much enjoy being part of those first precious moments of life. Supporting women and their partners during this special time in their lives has given me great insight and allows me to understand pregnancy and birth more deeply. I also regularly treat victims of trauma and torture STARTTS (Service Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors) in Auburn, and I find it deeply satisfying being a part of their transitions from serious physical and emotional debilitation towards a better quality of life. Both of these incredible experiences inform my practice on a daily basis.

As far as training goes, I completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine at UTS in 2002 and so have been studying and practicing for over eleven years. I’ve completed postgraduate study in Nanning, Guangxi University, China, and also studied the Manaka Protocols – a form of Japanese acupuncture, Paediatric acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for kids, and Doula training. Prior to all of this I studied massage therapy, aromatherapy, kinesiology and Shiatsu whilst trying to find a healing path that I could truly resonate with. I come from a family of allopathic medical practitioners – with two parents as GPs, and a sister who completed her medical training, I grew up amongst lounge room medical consultations, and with a respect and understanding of the western medical model. I feel firmly grounded and deep respect for both traditions and believe that wonderful results can come from their integration. I attend regular seminars on acupuncture, herbal medicine, women’s health, obstetrics and mental health. I have joined forces with Genevieve David to offer a support group for Miscarriage and Stillbirth, as I felt compelled to offer an important service for women who struggle to come to terms with this difficult loss.

:: HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT TO OTHER PRACTITIONERS?

We use gentle, virtually pain-free methods of acupuncture that are rooted in Chinese and Japanese traditions, so all you feel are the benefits.

We both have a passion and an interest in women’s health, particularly fertility, pregnancy and mum’s health.We have been treating with this focus for several years which means our experience and expertise are deeper than your regular Chinese medicine practitioner.

We get excited about helping you achieve your goals. These may include a smoother pregnancy, a well prepared body and mind for conception or a trimmer figure after having a baby. We are here to help you every step of the way on your journey from woman to mother.

We have both worked hard on our own health and lifestyles and practice what we preach. We understand how tough it can be to make changes to your diet because we have been there. On the flip side, we know the rewards you personally get from the changes and that are achievable.
